Mageean has emphatic cross-country victory

ATHLETICS:CIARA MAGEEAN announced her intentions to shoot for Olympic qualification with a convincing victory at the Irish Universities Cross-Country Championships in Waterford her first race of the season.
The Down runner in her first year at UCD eased to the front at halfway and ended up over half a minute clear of Una Britton from UL, with Ciara Everard third.
UCD took their first university team title in 12 years.
John Coghlan of DCU won the mens race from DITs Daire Bermingham, with DCU defending their team title, although host college Waterford IT pushed them hard for second place, with UCD third.
The standout performers at the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country Championships, staged at St Marys College in Galway, were Kevin Dooney from CBC Monkstown in winning the senior boys title, and Sofra Clirigh Buttner from Coliste osagin in the intermediate girls race, winning what was a record fourth schools cross-country title in a row.
