Patterson, Staples lead West Mifflin over Belle Vernon

Ciara Patterson and Jhyla Staples had 25 and 20 points, respectively, as West Mifflin earned a 63-54 win over Belle Vernon on Thursday night in Section 4-AAA play.

West Mifflin (2-5, 1-0) opened a 30-22 halftime lead before host Belle Vernon (5-3, 0-1) rallied in the fourth quarter. Jessica Slagus had 20 points and 17 rebounds for Belle Vernon.

Uniontown 62, Yough 31 Jessy Madison scored 24 points, as Uniontown (7-3, 4-0) earned a Section 3-AAA win. Chelsa Coughenour had nine points for Yough (4-5, 0-2).

Norwin 62, Albert Gallatin 15 Laura Buchanan led Norwin (6-4, 3-0) with 11 points in a Section 1-AAAA victory over Albert Gallatin (2-9, 0-4). Buchanan was one of 13 girls to score for the Knights.

Peters Township 39, McKeesport 34, OT Danne Harding scored 13 points for McKeesport (2-8), including a free throw to tie the score in the final minute of regulation, but Peters Township (6-4) pulled away in overtime for a nonsection win.

Steel Valley 76, Carlynton 58 Taylor Szczepankowski scored a game-high 25 points for Steel Valley (8-1, 2-1) in a Section 5-AA win over Carlynton (8-3, 1-1). C.C. Dixon added 15 for the Ironmen.

Greensburg C.C. 70, East Allegheny 24 Karly Mellinger had 13 points to lead 13 scorers for Greensburg Central Catholic (7-0, 4-0) in a Section 3-AA win. East Allegheny (0-10, 0-3) was held to single digits in all four quarters.

Monessen 66, Clairton 34 Taleese Ogletree had 12 points for Clairton (3-2, 1-1), but it wasn`t enough as Class A No. 4 Monessen (8-2, 3-0) rolled to a Section 4 victory.

Serra Catholic 56, Frazier 16 The Eagles used a 24-0 first-quarter lead to cruise to a Section 4-A win a! t Frazie r (2-8, 0-4). Danielle Dindak and Jaime Tedesco each had 14 points for Serra Catholic (5-4, 2-0). Jaime Muccioli had eight points for Frazier.

Charleroi 67, South Allegheny 50 Joe Ramirez scored 17 points for South Allegheny (0-8), but it wasn't enough in a Section 4-AA loss. Tony Bristol had 21 points to lead Charleroi (4-7).

Serra Catholic 10, South Fayette 1 Serra Catholic blistered the visiting Lions with 47 shots and found the net with 10 of them in a Class A PIHL victory. Scoring for the Eagles were Jesse Anzelone, Nocholas Vacsulka (4), Robert Kendi Jr., Zachary Schindler (2) and Garner Kraemer (2).
